Introduction:

SATM was conceptualized in 1998 by a group a Transfusion Medicine specialists from South East Asian region. The first meeting was called on 27th November 1999 at Lucknow, India. An adhoc committee was formed in this meeting, involving Transfusion Medicine specialists from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The second meeting was organized under the dynamic President ship of Dr. R. M. Bindusara, Chief Blood Transfusion Officer (Sri Lanka) at Colombo on 8th April 2000. A formal Executive Committee was formed and started working from Lucknow, India as SATM secretariat. The Second SATM meeting was held under the direction of the President, SATM on 19-20th December 2003 at Ahmedabad



The third annual conference was held at Karachi, Pakistan from 18-19th December, 2004. The fourth annual meeting is being planned at Katmandu, Nepal from 2-3rd December, 2005 and preparations are in final stage. The New Executive Committee has taken over and actively started working for the progress of SATM from December 2003. Present Executive Committee will continue for three years as par constitutional provision. Most of prominent Transfusion Medicine Specialists from this part of the world are members of this Association cheveux chute.

 

 
Constitution:

The Association has a live constitution which was last modified and adopted in the annual meeting held at Karachi, Pakistan in 2004. The copy of the constitution is enclosed herewith for reference.
 

 
Membership:

Membership is open to all countries from this region. There are Executive members from each countries of this part of the world and there is a focal person from every country. This person acts like a hub for all Association activities in this country. There are members from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka. Transfusion Medicine specialists from other neighboring countries like Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and Cambodia have expressed interest to join in SAATM. Their membership is welcome and final clarification will be taken in the Katmandu conference on 2nd December 2005, during 4th annual conference.
 
 
Present activities:

1.
As a relatively young Association, SAATM is concentrating in starting country branches and starting membership drive.
2.
SAATM is concentrating on teaching and training activities in member countries. A series of lectures, wet workshops have been planned for Medical Officers and Technologists working in Transfusion Medicine departments of member countries.
